Categories - You can set up as many categories as you wish. Each category can either have numeric units, e.g. Years or Hours, or levels defined as the measure, e.g. Experience Levels for Technical Skills.

Attributes - Within each category you store a list of the attributes, or skills, that you wish to track or record against each resource.

Resource details are maintained via the resource list found under the “Resources” tab. Selecting a resource and then clicking “Maintain" takes you into a dialog to maintain the details.

The “Resource Attributes” maintenance dialog can be configured to organize the resource attributes in a number of ways: a flat list sorted by any column, or grouped by any column, e.g. Category.

Retain Skills can be used to search for resources, or staff, with the required skills and attributes.

When used in conjunction with Retain Resource, Retain Skills becomes an even more powerful tool. Checking the “Retain” checkbox in the dialog causes the list of resources in Retain Resource to automatically be updated to match the list in Retain Skills.

Retain Skills

Retain Skills integrates with Retain Resource, using the resource list, and is designed to allow more detailed skills recording and selection than is possible with the standalone Retain Resource.

The skills module allows you to define and store comprehensive skills information against resources. Used in combination with Retain Resource, it ensures that you can get the best person for the job.

Retain Skills consists of two modules, the Management module and the Selection module. The Management module is where the ‘Categories’, ‘Attributes’ and ‘Resource Details’ are set up and maintained. The Selection module is used for finding resources, or staff, that match skills requirements.

At present this module is available to work with all editions of Retain Resource except Retain for Notes.
