Getting the idea...
 
The core role of Retain Resource is to manage resources. It primarily achieves this by means of a ’booking’ system - i.e. where a ’resource’ is allocated to a ’job’ for a specific period. In turn Retain Resource can analyze the use of resources and provide management information. Retain Resource allows a great deal of flexibility in setting up these elements.
       
 
Resource List
• Resources can be anything from staff to assets such as cars, conference rooms and overhead projectors. Each resource can be given classifications, groupings and/or attributes which can be used in the allocation process and for producing reports. For example, you may classify staff by grades, group them by departments and skills.  
  • Jobs are used to describe the range of things to which your resources can be allocated. For greater flexibility Retain Resource also allows each job to be further defined into components (sub-tasks). For staff planning, typically each client is a job and each matter for that client is a separate component.

Bookings
• Bookings are the periods of time for which resources are allocated to jobs. Retain Resource offers a great deal of sophistication in identifying which resources are available (for example staff that have specialist skills) and in allowing you to optimize the allocations.  
       
Giving you a clear picture
 
One of Retain Resource's fundamental strengths is its clever and attractive screen design. It presents information with great clarity and from a variety of angles - all in a meaningful manner that immediately conveys the relevant business issues.
       
 
Bookings
• Wallchart screens in Retain Resource look similar to a traditional wallchart booking system. Colored bars, called bookings, on the grid represent allocations of resources. The ability to color code tasks is a popular feature.  
       
 
Calendar view
• Calendar screens display the planned work for an individual resource (or job). This view is useful to see what work is planned for a given period.  
       
 
Time periods
• Time periods can be any period specified by you. There are shortcuts for a detailed look at a particular day to a week, month, quarter, year etc.  
       
 
Open a notebook
• Notebooks are a collection of these views (and reports). A standard set of notebooks can be set up for all the users. Also each member of staff can create their own notebook to suit their needs. A finance director’s needs may differ from those of a manager or partner.  
 
Highly intuitive
 
In addition to its intuitive screen design and customizability, Retain Resource functions in an easy to learn and use manner. The mouse can be used to assign a resource to a particular job or project. The standard ’click and drag’ process can also be used to move, copy or even change the length of job assignments.
